Sourdough Discard Crackers

Sourdough discard crackers are the perfect way to use up your discard. Once you bake these crackers with (Everything but the Bagel) seasoning you will bake them all the time!

What if the crackers you made at home for you family were not only better for your health but they were simple? Well, you are in luck! This recipe will make you have a craving for homemade hummus for the perfect dip to eat these with. These sourdough discard crackers are made with Everything but the Bagel seasoning and topped with salt.

Benefits of Sourdough Discard

Sourdough discard is rich in several health benefits. Digestion as being one of the biggest. Most people who can not have gluten can digest sourdough because of how the bacteria ferments the starches. This process gets rid of most gluten. Since it is so saturated with good bacteria it is a great probiotic to your gut. Sourdough discard is also very rich in vitamin B and Omega-3 fatty acids.

This recipe also calls for Everything but the Bagel Seasoning. The seasoning has three type of seeds in it.

  1. Poppy Seeds: rich in manganese, important for bone health and blood clotting

2. White Sesame Seeds: antioxidant, anti inflammatory, and anti aging

3. Black Sesame Seeds: Improves blood pressure, antioxidants and other plant minerals that help fight cancer

Tips for baking the perfect crackers

  • Make sure butter is mostly if not all melted
  • When brushing with olive oil don’t be stingy
  • Sprinkle with salt and everything but the bagel seasoning after brushing with olive oil to pack and extra punch of goodness and nutrients.

Step by Step

  1. Mix together Sourdough discard, flour, salt, melted butter (unsalted), everything but the bagel seasoning.

2. Place mixed dough in a plastic bag and put in the fridge for 30 minutes.

3. Divide the dough in half and roll it out on parchment paper very thin

4. Cut dough with pizza cutter to make square like crackers.

5. Brush dough with olive oil and sprinkle salt and Everything but the Bagel seasoning.

Place in the oven at 350 for 15- 20 minutes depending on how thin you rolled your crackers.

Sourdough Discard Crackers

Sourdough Discard Crackers with Everything but the Bagel Seasoning

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/3 cup Sourdough Discard
  • 1 1/2 cup Unbleached All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 4 tbsp Melted Unsalted Butter
  • 1 tbsp Everything But the Bagel Seasoning
  • Olive Oil to Brush on Before Placing in the Oven

Instructions
 

  • Mix in sourdough discard, flour, salt, melted butter, and everything but the bagel seasoning. Mix by hand or in a stand mixer until dough comes together. It shouldn't be sticky. Next place dough in a large ziplock bag and place in fridge for about 30 minutes. After waiting for dough to cool, take it out of the plastic bag and divide. Roll one of the divided balls of dough on a sheet of parchment paper. Make sure dough is rolled to about 2-3 cm thick. Lay the rolled out dough on a baking sheet before brushing on the olive oil. Next, sprinkle a little more salt and everything but the bagel seasoning before placing baking sheet in the oven. Bake at 375 F for 15-20 minutes.
